European Pro-Life Doctors

EPLD - European Medical Movement for the Right of Life - Europäische Ärztevereinigung Lebensrecht - Brain death

Strategic proposals  -  Prolife-work in the future
while and after the Rome brain-death conference 2009 –

Welcome on the website of EPLD-medical pro-life association!

Dear visitor, dear medical colleague,

To clear in Rome during the conference

The Doctors:
-  How to become and be a common, effectual voice for life?
-  How to form a „Doctor’s network for life“ (national- and Europewide) ?
-  To establish an association of medical opponents of brain death?
(as section of EPLD-medical association? „European medical Brain-death opponents“??
With a competent chief / members of board / directive team
-  Collaboration with the Church, pro-life and patients-organisations.
-  How to win and appoint moulded and important physicians / personalities?

Catholic (FIAMC-) Physicians:
o  Have to be independent from pharmacy-industires and not to propagate unilaterally the „brain-death concept
o  Should collaborate with pro-life groups.
         - Direct contact to the Church and to the Vatican (Papal Accademy ... / Council for Life)
o How speaks with the Holy Father and with which responsibles? Connections? Lobbying?

The pro-life movement:
-  Correct use of terms in the discussion and in the media.
-  Scientific research, medical controlling of news.
-  Public relations, speeches, schools: at a regional level, with the media.
-  Direct contact to the Church and to the Vatican (Papal Accademy ... / Council for Life)
-P rayer in these concerns , for the protection of life, for the „brain-death“ victims and involved.

The Church:
a) Intensive pastoral care of the „brain-death“ patients.
b) Care for a human dying  (controlled by a hospital chaplain)

c) Renunciation of the weak concept of brain death:
       - The German Episcopal Conference:
Correction of the „Common declaration of brain death“ (1990)

d) Vatican, Holy Father, PAV:
     A clear commitment to:

- „The brain death is not the death of the whole man“,
     - „Ex cadavere“ is to understand as „really dead, without beating heart“.
     - Definition of the death also by theologists, the Church (and not alone by doctors)

e) Better contact to the pro-life movement / pro-life doctors.

Medicine:
- How sure are the criteria of diagnostics for the term „brain death“?

-Surveillance of the brain death-diagnostics by independent physicians / institutions / the Church …

- Necessary is the investigation of statistics regarding brain death, accidents, failures in diagnostics, …

- To speak about „brain-death syndrome” instead about „brain death“

- Modern prelevation of organs:
No to NHBD – no extraction of organs after only cardiac arrest of the victim,
           -   Patients have the right on resuscitation and intensive medical care on the spot.

-  To define the term “death” not oly by physicians, but in collaboration with the Church, religion, theology, philosophy…
(A question: Can we define life and death all all?)

Presentation of new terms:

„Brain-death Syndrome“ instead of „brain death“ (by Judge Rainer Beckmann)

- „Hygiene of Dying“ :
To have the right on his own, worhy and peaceful death, with sacraments and prayers until the defintive death (by Dr. Gero         Winkelmann)

Is there a danger of  „Gallileo Gallilei II.“ – beeing afraid of a new false sentence:
Force to accept the „brain death“ as death of the whole man by:
o a) the Holy Father and the Church, including the conferences of bishops,
o b) Prolife- and Christian (Catholic) physicians, the FIAMC-doctors.

           The Causes:
o The Church and pro-life doctors are afraid of a new false sentence,
o To adapt themselves as doctors, Church, society at the Zeitgeist and not to contradict the today science
o To accommodate the pressure, organs should be procured, “whatever how dead“!
