Welcome on the website of EPLD-medical pro-life association!
Dear visitor, dear medical colleague,
in preparation of our partecipation at the brain-death conference 19-2-2009 in Rome we publish our proposals:
A) Generally: o The brain death is not the death of the whole man o The as brain-dead declared patient is a dying one and consequently allways still a human being and person, o everybody has the right at a dying in dignity and at his personal death. o First of all physicians have to respect life and welfare of their patient.(“Nihil nocere”)
B) Medical aspects: o 1. EPLD-doctors refuse the diagnostics of brain death, because unnecessary and nocive (apnoe-test), at lean o 2. must be follwed a accurate and standardized medical diagnostics of brain death Hirntoddiagnostik o No prelevation of organs from patients with cardiac arrest (NHBD) and from anenzephalic (congenital bad malformation of brain)
C) Aspects of pro-life work: o Integration of all forces, which do not aggree with the concept of brain death as total death, o Medical facts and serious sources have to be the basis of each pro-life work.
D) Church & religion, spiritual aspects: o No acceptance of the today concept of brain death and to the prelevation of organs at beating heart (except living organ donation) o Spiritual care of dying, brain death patients until their definitive death. o The expression „ex cadavere“ formed in 2008 by Pope Benedikt XVI. has to be totally clear and may not allow different interpretation o The definition of death has to be defined by physicians, theologists and philosophers.
